The Augustinian Recollects arrived to administer to administer Bago in 1882. Father Manuel Belloso was the first Recollect parish priest assigned in 1882 until 1883. He was succeeded by Fr. Ramon Alegria in 1883 and Fr. Vicente Abrego in 1884. Fr. Juan Bautista Pereda, parish priest from 1884 to 1889, started the construction of the bigger and stronger church in 1886.
Father Leon Ochoa was the last recollect missionary assigned in March to July 1898 and in October until December on the same year. The revolutionary army of Gen. Juan Araneta captured him along with other Recollect friars when the revolution broke out on November 5, 1898. The absence of the Recollect missionaries in Bago at the height of revolution favored the conversion of maby people to Aglipayan sect led by Fr. Gregorio Aglipay.

Father Mauricio Ferrero (1844-1916) was the first Recollect parish priest of Bacolod in 1871.He administered the parish for 33 years (1871-94.18797-98. 1902-10.1914-16). In 1987, he began construction of the new and bigger church made of coral stones from Guimaras and hardwood from Palawan for its interior. The Dominican Bishop Mariano Cuartero of Jaro blest the beautiful magnificent church on January 19, 1882. It became a cathedral in 1933 when Bacolod was created a Diocese. Father Ferrero constructed the old convent (now the Bishop house) in 1891 and completed in 1894.
The Recollect ceded the administration of the Parish to the secular clergy in 1933. Father Tirso Ruana was the last Recollect priest assigned in San Sebastian, Bacolod from 1932 until 1933.
